In the early 70's four of us good buddies loaded up our bikes and headed to Sturgis and than on to Yellowstone. We were on the road for I think about 2 weeks. The four photos that I uploaded above were taken during that trip. Good memories for sure and they help to bring happiness during this time of sorrow. Mark is on the right in the photo.

Our journey began in the winter of 1988; Mark and I were introduced through a friend of my sister, Nickyee and her husband Buddy, in Phoenix, AZ.
Mark had given up a successful auto body business in MN and moved to Phoenix with the sole purpose of finding his two daughters, Briena and Kelly. They had been taken and hidden by his ex-wife somewhere in the Phoenix area. As our relationship developed, it was discovered that my son Jeremy, who was 8 at the time, knew and played with both Briena and Kelly, lived at the same apartment complex in Mesa, AZ, about a year prior to Mark and I meeting. I have memories of Jeremy, Briena, and Kelly playing, swimming together, Jeremy attending Briena's birthday party and riding bikes with them. It was no coincidence we met, began a relationship, married and had 2 more children, Marisa and Brandon. Mark did locate his daughters and had an opportunity to spend time with them only to be heartbroken once again when they were taken and hidden for the second time. In 1990, after Mark returned to MN they were found in the small town of Coolidge, AZ but Mark was unable to see or speak to them for fear of them disappearing again. His relationship with them began later as they became adults and were able to make their own decisions.
In April of 1990 Jeremy and I moved to MN and Mark with his big heart took Jeremy as his son and provided a good life in Sandstone, MN. These were some of the best times our lives, living way out on 132 acres of beautiful trees and green pastures. I have so many memories of all the wild animals, beautiful lilac and fruit trees, the Halloween snow storm, beautiful holidays, marriage, and the birth of Marisa and Brandon. I have so many stories of the life we lived in Sandstone; Mark shooting his tire while attempting to shoot a badger that was under his beloved baby(1964 Olds); coming home with ants in his pants as he made a snow angle like on a big ant mound in the woods; hunting deer out of our dining room window; bringing home a baby deer he found on the road; attempting to bring our horse back from the pasture with no reins, saddle and flopping as she ran and jumped a fallen tree; duck taping a baby lamb's leg that had been broken by our horse when she stepped on her (it healed), these are just a few stories of our life in Sandstone.
In 1997 we moved to Harris MN, Brandon was just over one, Marisa was four, and Jeremy was off to college in Duluth. Our lives in Harris were filled with the joy of raising our kids, Mark connecting and developing strong relationship with Briena and Kelly; the blessings of six grandchildren, son-in-laws, a daughter-in-law and re-establishing his auto body business. As the kids grew, Mark's face would light up any time they were around; he in some ways was a kid himself and loved every minute of being a father. Brandon began to work with Mark in the shop (something he always dreamed of) and their father-son relationship grew strong.
Mark was later diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy in 2000, while the road ahead was uncertain; Mark always stayed strong, fought hard, and plowed through all that was thrown his way. In 2003, Marisa was diagnosed with the same condition, and after many hospital stays, we received the blessing of a transplant in 2005. Mark continued to battle his own illness, but he did whatever it took to keep going, stayed strong for his family, and in July 2012 received his blessing of a transplant.
Mark lost the battle on Sunday, November 25th; the cause was not the gift of his heart, but the uncertain illness caused by his immune system being suppressed. I am thankful for the journey of almost 20 years of marriage, my beautiful family, and the life we lived in Sandstone and Harris. I am at peace with the tragic end, knowing he is now resting with God. I am blessed with many family and friends surrounding us with their love and support. While the journey ahead is uncertain, I will always be thankful for Mark and all he has given. He will forever be in my heart, honored and remembered.
