Grandchildren include Tyler, Ashley, Nicholas Morrison, Thomas, Cole, Zack Bye, Haley and Alivia Theis. She is preceded in death by father and mother, James and Ann Welsh; father-in-law and mother-in-law Olav and Ruth Bye; niece Emily Schindler; brother Robert Welsh; brother-in-law Larry Selfridge and grandson Easton Bye.
Alexis grew up in Sharon, Connecticut. Upon graduation from secretarial school she moved to Washington, D.C. and spent 15 years of her career in what she described as a "power hungry city". During that time she began to pursue a degree in business management and completed that later in her career. She used to describe herself as a gypsy, moving from D.C. to California, back to D.C., on to Denver, Colorado, to Oklahoma, and finally settling in Minnesota - a state where she found love, a new family, and many wonderful friends. In addition she worked at Cummins in Fridley, MN, for 21 years, retiring in 2008.
She had a variety of interests, including traveling and being with family and friends. Most important to her were her husband Garry, and her dog Max. There never seemed to be enough time for them, but they knew how much she loved them unconditionally. Her gift for making sure people were a major part of whatever was going on around her was appreciated by so many. Laughing and having fun was important to her, and everyone who knew Alexis loved that attribute. This poem best describes how she believed one should live:
Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence:
The bliss of growth
The glory of action
The splendor of beauty,
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision,
But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
Such is the salutation of the dawn.
