Obituary of Benjamin Deering
Benjamin D. Deering, 70, of Cambridge, MN died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the Golden Living Center Lynwood of Fridley, MN.
He was born January 1, 1943 in Little Falls, Minnesota to John and Pauline (Oleck) Deering. Ben grew up in Little Falls, graduating from Little Falls High School in 1961.
In December 1964 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam during the war. He was honorably discharged in November 1966.
On October 25, 1969 he was united in marriage to Lois Quast at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Litchfield. They lived in Minneapolis until 1974 when they moved to Cambridge and raised their two sons.
Ben was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Isanti VFW, as well as volunteer coordinator for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed working on small engines and cars, fishing, hunting, playing cards and working in his vegetable garden. Ben could spend hours driving around in the car looking for deer, was always good at telling stories and always had a joke to tell. In more recent years he liked to drive his motorized scooter to the boat landing on Lake Fannie with his dog, Saki in tow. Ben loved having people come to his home and enjoyed the time spent visiting with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond, Martin, Tony and John, sister Marion Johnston. Ben is survived by his wife Lois Deering; sons Kyle and wife Sarah Deering of Cambridge, Kevin and wife Robbie Deering of Minneapolis; 2 grandchildren Mallory and Brandon Deering. Brothers Richard (Bonnie) Deering, Joe (Marilyn) Deering, and Leonard Deering, sisters Anna Mae Hatch and Marge Snipstad, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
