Obituary of Arlen R. Weis
Arlen R. Weis, age 87, of Cambridge, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, August 3, 2017.
As a youngster, Arlen did farmwork with his Dad, Art. In the teen years he enjoyed spending time with his Aunt Ina and was probably assigned whatever tasks needed doing to help out.
When a young man Arlen did carpentry work with his Uncle Roy.
Arlen served in the Korean Conflict with the First Cavalry Division. After Korea, Arlen had a job with the Munitions Plant in the Twin Cities.
When Marie met Arlen he worked at Archer Daneils Midland of Minneapolis, which made soybean oil. When they closed and moved out of state; Arlen got a job at Moline's Pig Farm between Cambridge and Isanti.
Arlen's next job was a a chicken farm south of Cambridge which was part owned by Doc Magnuson, who delivered all three children; Jesse, Doris and Todd. Dr. Magnuson recommended Arlen for the custodial position with the Cambridge-Isanti School District.
Arlen worked in more than one building location and mentored several younger custodians. He was proud of his boiler's license certificate.
At retirement, Arlen was a the Cambridge Middle School location. Some former students served detention might remember helping out by sweeping hall under Arlen's supervision.
Arlen was born on September 12, 1929 in St. Ansgar, IA to Arthur and Rose (nee Gordon) Weis. He was an honorably discharged Army Korean War Veteran. Arlen retired from the Cambridge-Isanti Middle School as a custodian.
He is preceded in death by his grandson, Andrew Stittiams; brother, Dale Weis and brother-in-law, Ray Putz.
Arlen is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Marie (nee Eells); children, Jessie (Scott) Lohman, Doris (Yvette Baptiste) Weis and Todd Weis; grandchildren, Grant Lohman, Darrell Stittiams and Shateka Baptiste; great-grandchild, Elric Baptiste; brother, Maynard (Donna) Weis of Rose Creek, MN; sisters, Marilyn Putz of Harris, MN and Marlys (Jim) Eells of Isanti, MN and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church - 109 2nd Ave N., Isanti, Minnesota.
Friends may gather 1 hour prior to the service, at the church, to express their condolences.
Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, with honors, on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 12:45pm.
Marie and his children would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Cambridge Medical Center and the doctors and nurses at Abbott Northwestern Hospital of Minneapolis. We're grateful to the hospital clergy that visited with us and Salem Lutheran Church interim Pastor, Susan Masters, who visited Dad.
