Obituary of Grace Laurine Loftsgard
Grace Laurine (Lien) Loftsgard, aged 94, died peacefully on August 4th, 2018 at Grace Point Crossing in Cambridge, MN. She was born July 7th, 1924 at her family’s farm in Park River, North Dakota.
Grace graduated from Park River High School in 1943 where she met her future husband of 73 years, Harvey Leon Loftsgard. On May 9th, 1945, Grace and Harvey married and shortly thereafter they moved to Seattle, Washington while Harvey was stationed in the Navy. Returning back to Park River, North Dakota, Grace and Harvey raised their three children.
Grace thoroughly enjoyed playing the piano, singing in Our Savior’s Lutheran church choir and a woman’s quartet. Her family fondly recalls Grace sewing clothes and cooking homemade meals for them. Grace also worked in the family hardware business alongside her husband, Harvey, keeping books for the store. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, constantly reminding her children and grandchildren how much family meant to her. Grace and Harvey were very active in their church life, eventually helping start a new church body in the Park River area, Victory Free Lutheran Church.
During their retirement years, Grace and Harvey enjoyed residing in Apache Junction, AZ and attended Victory Lutheran in Mesa, AZ. In 2010, they moved back to the Midwest and have resided in Cambridge, MN, the last eight years.
Grace was preceded in death by her father and mother Henry and Laurine Lien, brother Leonard (Isabelle) Lien, sister Hazel (Charles) Jacobson, brother Floyd (Orena) Lien, brother Wallace (Hazel) Lien, and sister Esther (Floyd) Rush, brother-in-law Eugene (Pearl) Loftsgard, Laurel (Carol) Loftsgard, and sister-in-law Ruth Larson .
Grace is survived by her devoted husband, Harvey Leon Loftsgard. Additionally, she is survived by her brother-in law Gene Larson and sister-in law Eleanor Alexander.
She leaves behind her three children: son Gary (Debbie) Loftsgard of Pahrump, Nevada, son Brion (Cindy) Loftsgard of Plymouth, MN, daughter Debora (Clyde) Bloyer of Cambridge, MN. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jessica Ryan (Joshua Kelch), Jason (Annie) Bloyer, Nathan (Brianne) Loftsgard, Joshua (Keri) Bloyer, Jenna (David) Reeves, Cole Loftsgard, and Victoria Bloyer. Additionally, she leaves behind nine great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Grace’s life will be held at Victory Free Lutheran Church in Park River, ND on August 9th, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Victory Free Lutheran Church, Park River, ND.
