Obituary of Ardell Louise Leak
Ardell Louise Leak, 76, of Minneapolis passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Providence Place in Minneapolis.
She was born January 8, 1942 in Minneapolis, MN to Reuben and Margaret (Olson) Jacobson. Ardell grew up in South Minneapolis where she attended grade school and graduated from South High in 1960. She attended the University of Minnesota and earned an Associate’s Degree. She worked at the Bureau of Mines where she met Vance Leak in 1965.
Ardell and Vance were married on August 25, 1967 at Bethlehem Baptist Church in South Minneapolis. They made their home in the Longfellow neighborhood of South Minneapolis and raised their three children. In 1969 Ardell stayed at home to raise the children and was a seamstress, making coats and selling them downtown and all across the country. She even invented her own stitch. In 1984, after the kids were grown, Ardell went back to work for the U.S. Department of Labor - Wage & Hour Division. She retired from there in 2004. She later worked part time at Walgreen’s for a few years.
Ardell was a member of the Urban Refuge Church in South Minneapolis, she enjoyed baking and caring for “the light of her life” and only grandchild Ashley Rasche.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her husband Vance, children Varina Leak and husband Chad Rasche of South Minneapolis, Vandell Leak of Charleston, SC, Vanessa Leak of Chaska, granddaughter Ashley Rasche of South Minneapolis, sister Eileen (John) Fethkenher of Nebraska, brother David "Jake" (Rita) Jacobson of South Minneapolis, as well as other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7PM, Monday, December 3, 2018 at the Urban Refuge Church, 5501 Chicago Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55417. Visitation begins at 5:30 PM prior to the service at the church.
A Private Burial was held at Dalbo Baptist Cemetery.
