Obituary of Carol Joanne Ledin

Carol Joanne Ledin, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, originally from Isanti, MN, died on December 2nd, 2018, eight days before her 80th birthday. Born on December 10th, 1938 in Minneapolis to Alden and Doris (Lund) Ledin, Carol spent her childhood growing up in Isanti, MN. She was a 1956 graduate of Cambridge High School. After graduation Carol worked for Capital Airlines (later United Airlines) in Minneapolis, later moving on with them to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and finally Grand Rapids, Michigan. There she married Thomas Galle in 1961 and had two children, Steven and Kristen.

After they were both in school, Carol took her greatest leap of faith and went back to nursing college.  She became an RN and was proud of her 25 years of work in Labor and Delivery at St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

After retirement Carol was a proud volunteer at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, working as both a docent and tram tour guide. She also was overjoyed to become a grandmother to two granddaughters, even assisting at both of their births in true retired-nurse style.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents Alden and Doris Ledin, brother John Ledin, and sister-in-law Mildred Ledin. She is survived by her sister Madge (Harlan) Lillemoen, of Isanti, former husband Thomas Galle, son Steven Galle, both of Grand Rapids, Michigan, daughter Kristen (Tom) Shannon of East Grand Rapids, MI, granddaughters Alexandra and Victoria Shannon, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Trinity Lutheran Church, Samaritas Senior Living, Fresenius Dialysis and the 3L Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital for their care and compassion during her final days.

Funeral Services will be held at 2PM, Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Faith Lutheran Church in Isanti.  Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Friday at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in Cambridge Lutheran Cemetery.  A later memorial service will be held in Grand Rapids later this month.  Donations can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 2700 Fulton East, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 49506.
