Obituary of Dora Dorothy Larson
Dora Dorothy Larson, 96, of Princeton, formerly of Isanti and Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.
She was born May 22, 1922 in Bradford Township, MN to Helen Madsen. Dora was raised by her mother in west Cambridge and attended the Pine Grove Country School.
In 1939 she was united in marriage to Reuben Larson at Calvary Lutheran Church at Rush Point. They lived for a time in Red Wing and worked together at a Dairy Farm for some time before moving to Milaca where Dora and Reuben operated a farm milk delivery truck route together. This is where they met the Wilsons who became best friends to the end. They eventually moved back to west Cambridge then to Isanti where they lived until Reuben’s passing. Dora worked for many years at Anderson Jewelers, and later Chilson Jewelers from which she retired after 40 years. She then volunteered at the Cambridge Hospital gift shop for several years.
In the 1950’s Dora and Reuben traveled all over the upper Midwest on their Harley Davidson motorcycle. They also owned a cabin on an island on Lake Kabetogama until the federal government took it over for Voyager’s National Park. In the 1960’s they joined the Rum River Sno-Travelers snowmobile club and made many trips all over Minnesota, to Yellowstone National Park, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Ontario Canada, as well as many other places. In the 1970’s they began sailing and sailed for ten years, taking trips to the Caribbean Islands and the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior. In her later years Dora enjoyed four wheeling in Wisconsin at Morrie’s farm and collecting Teddy Bears. After collecting over 200 Teddy Bears, one even from Alaska, she gave many away upon moving to Princeton’s Caley House.
Reuben passed away on August 1985 and shortly after that Dora moved to Cambridge. She enjoyed the trip she made to Brazil with her “son” Richard Anderson and met many friends while there, claiming Brazil was “the most friendly country in the world”. In 2006 she moved to the Caley House Assisted Living in Princeton and four years ago became a resident of the Elim Home in Princeton.
Dora was preceded in death by her mother and husband Reuben. She is survived by her cousin Donna Lindblad of Cambridge, like a son Richard Anderson of Princeton, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at 11AM, Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Walker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Cambridge Union Cemetery.
