Obituary of Darlene J. Lenz
Darlene Janet Lenz was born July 18, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN to Joseph and Laura Handahl. She died March 30, 2019 at GracePointe Crossing.
In 1954, Darlene married Merle Lenz. They had 2 daughters; Laurie and Dianne. In 1957, they moved from Blaine to Isanti. Darlene was a member of North Isanti Baptist Church where she and Merle were youth leaders for many years. In 1981, Darlene & Merle moved to McGregor, MN, where she ran a small clothing shop. She was active in the Lions organization. After being winter Texans for a few years, they eventually moved to Weslaco, TX permanently. She and Merle ran the Mexican Children’s Refuge, a program to keep kids in school and on to college and out of poverty in Progresso, Mexico.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Merle, son-in-law Bob Dochniak, 3 sisters and 1 brother.
She is survived by her daughters Laurie (Oscar) Jones and Dianne (Ken) Coyne, grandchildren Michelle, Andrew and Jenny Coyne; Monica (Eric) Swenson, Luke (Nicki) Dochniak and Diana (Adam) Dordal and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Memorial service 11 AM April 12, 2019 at North Isanti Baptist Church 2248 313th Ave NE. Cambridge.
Family and friends may gather 1 hour prior to service at the church to express their condolences.
Interment North Isanti Baptist Church cemetery.
