Obituary of Bernice L. Heckt

Bernice L Heckt, age 89 of Cambridge, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 15, 2015 at the Haven House of Cambridge. She was born on August 13, 1925 in Rock County, Springwater Township, Minnesota to Emil & Lorraine Petersen. She graduated from Garretson High School. In 1944 Bernice married Wallace Heckt and farmed together for 16 years before moving to Cambridge, where they continued farming, until Wallace pursued a career in long-distance trucking. Bernice’s true passions were gardening and her eight children. She had various jobs throughout her life, but becoming a nanny was her true calling. Being a member of a Lutheran church was very important to her throughout her life. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Wallace and infant daughter Beverly Kay; brothers Herbert, Carl and Lee. She is survived by her children Shirley Christiansen of Des Moines, WA, Eugene (Susan) of Cambridge, Ronald (Jane) of Roundup, MT, Steven (Ronda) of Stanchfield, MN, Cheryl Samms of Auburn, WA, Keith (Vicky) of Covington, WA, Kevin (Mary Jo) of Tacoma, WA and Lori (David) Kelly of Santa Rosa, CA. Grandmother of 15, Great grandmother of 28 and Great-Great Grandmother of 4. Also survived by her brother Loren (Karen) Petersen of Omaha, NE and sister Lois (Harold) Kindt of Hardwick, MN.
