I'm just learning of George's "homecoming". George you are forever in my memories of Cambridge as a young person needing examples of God's Amazing Grace and mercy as demonstrated in Jesus Christ. You were for me an example of a Godly man with great faith and wise counsel. Your warmth and welcome were always on display with such genuine humility. Your legacy will live on through your family and friends of which I am proud to be considered a friend. Peace to you my friend and Ambassador of Christ. My love and condolences to all the Johnson clan.

George was a great, caring and thoughtful man. I had the pleasure of working with George from 2008 to 2014 as I provided a service to his office building. George was more thoughtful and strategic than any other property owner I have worked for. He had a solution to all problems! George will be missed.

Wow...George lived a long, and by all counts a truly full life. I had the privilege to know him when I was a teenager. I'll never forget playing ping pong with him. He was so competitive...to avoid losing one match he took his shoes and socks off to have better traction on the tile floor! I remember him as a generous man with a big smile. Thanks for sharing the news. I'm sure there were no doubt many at his funeral paying their deep respects.

When we first moved back to Cambridge in 1978 and were starting our business, George provided invaluable counsel and encouragement. He and Shirley were such a lovely example of kindness and devotion to their family, church and community. Our love and sympathy to Shirley and his great family.

My condolences to all those who knew and will miss George. George was instrumental in encouraging me to start my own business. I think it was somewhere around 1990, he had some office space available for lease that he had some special pricing on to get me in the door to try out for the first six months. I remember thinking at the time, how am I going to afford an extra $300 a month! I rented from him for the next five years as my business grew( along with my rent ;-) and he continued to accommodate my needs. He was a great business role model with strong work ethics that I learned a lot from.
I was fortunate enough to reconnect with him in the last couple of years and was able to thank him for his encouragement and guidance.

I send my deepest condolences to Tim and Molly. Having any member of a family pass leaves a void that can not be filled. Your Dad was a very generous man that contributed to the greater good of Cambridge and he will be missed.

Over the last few years I got to meet and talk with George about the early history of the Scotsman and Direct Market Media. He always had a story to tell which always brought many smiles to his face as he told the story. What a great guy.

George was a much beloved man for the entire Starr family. He was one of my father's life-long closest friends. George was responsible for my father's introduction to my mother Alice who lived in Chicago. While he and my father were in the Navy, George brought my Dad to dinner at Mom's home and eventually, they fell in love at Wheaton College and and married! George was extraordinarily generous toward my father and mother in their early days in the ministry. When Dad took a new job and needed to re-furnish a new parsonage, George helped them with furniture and appliances... things they would have been challenged to buy.
When I was in junior high, George was the leader of my Boy's Brigade Club at First Baptist. The campouts at the Johnson cabin on Spectacle Lake were the best. I'm not sure how George managed to wrangle 30 young men but he provided us a memorable time. He taught me how to waterski behind his power boat.
In my very early adulthood, I worked for George and learned many important lessons about being a person of integrity in the world of business. George demonstrated unconditional positive regard for me in my years working in Cambridge. I learned to drive a large truck picking up furniture and carpet in the cities, learned how to measure a home and estimate the cost of replacing flooring, learned how to inventory a warehouse and learned the best way to get a hide-a-bed couch up a narrow flight of stairs.
George was a man of great compassion and kindness and he will be greatly missed. I send my deepest condolences to Shirley, Jeff, Tim and Meg and your families.

George's involvement at First Baptist Church was a positive influence on my growing up. Later, upon my discharge from the Army, he gave me a summer job working at the Leader delivering appliances and furniture. I observed him being a Christian businessman which showed me he was living his values in the real world , not just the church world. May he rest in peace.
