Obituary of Thomas T. Thiry
Thomas Todd Thiry, 51, of Stanchfield passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 in Cambridge.
He was born on June 13, 1965 in Coon Rapids, MN to Richard and Sonja (Swanson) Thiry. The family lived a short time in Coon Rapids before buying a home southeast of Cambridge. Tom attended grade school in Isanti and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1983. Tom went on to become a Journeyman Electrician and began working at Commonwealth Electric which became a part of Hunt Electric, from which he retired due to failing health.
On March 4, 2005 he was united in marriage to Marianne in Castries, St. Lucia in the Caribbean. They built a home in Stanchfield and lived there until moving to Duluth in the summer of 2016. In August 13, 2013 they bought a cabin on Lake Winnibigoshish where Tom loved to spend time fishing.
Tom enjoyed curling, golfing, spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing, going on fishing trips with family and friends to Lake of The Woods, big game and bird hunting trips. Spending time with his extended family as much as he could. He and Marianne recently went on a 21 day trip cross country. Followed by a huge celebration of his mother's 80th birthday hosted at his sister Pam and Jim's hotel in Lanesboro. Tom enjoyed always being active, he was active in his children’s activities from high school through college. He was a great teacher; and taught his children many life lessons. He taught them by example to care for their spirit, as well as the land, the home and most of all each other.
He was preceded in death by his sister Kim Thiry, father Dick Thiry, father-in-law Thomas Neumann. Tom is survived by his wife Marianne, children Desiree (Jacob) Wickman of Rice, MN, Nicholas (Sarah) Thiry of Shoreview, Angela (Nick) Engelbrekt of Chisago City, Sadie Broll of Duluth, 2 grandchildren Natalie and Luke Engelbrekt and two more on the way, mother Sonja Thiry of Cambridge, siblings Pat (Julie) Thiry of Stanchfield, Pam (Jim) Watson of Lanesboro, Pete (Julie) Thiry of Cambridge, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
