Obituary of Phyllis V. Anderson

Phyllis V. Anderson, 92, of Cambridge formerly of Ft. Dodge, Iowa passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017. Phyllis was born on March 23, 1924 in rural West Point, Nebraska to Arvid and Ellen (Peterson) Anderson. She attended country school in Burt County, and completed High School at West Point NE. There she was active in 4-H and school music. She attended Bethel College and McPhail School of Music, Minneapolis receiving a Bachelors of Music in 1949. She also received her Masters of Music Education at Colorado University. She taught school in her home school district until appointed as the Choir Teacher in Fairbury NE where she taught for 3 years. For most of her career, Phyllis was a Middle School Choir and Vocal Music Teacher in the Fort Dodge, IA public schools where she retired in 1986. In those years, she was a faithful member, leader and choir director at Faith Baptist Church in Fort Dodge during the school year. She also served faithfully in her home church, First Baptist of Oakland NE during summer breaks. In 1991 Phyllis moved to Cambridge, MN to live near her brother, Rev. Elwood Anderson. She moved to Mill Ridge Apartments very briefly before Elwood died. In Cambridge, Phyllis became an active member of the First Baptist Church and found great delight leading hymn sings and sing-alongs in Grandview, now GracePointe Presbyterian Homes. She moved to GracePointe Commons in 2011 and from there to Gables West in 2016. To all who knew her, Phyllis had a delightful sense of humor, active care for others and a deep love for her Lord. Phyllis is survived by her nephews and niece; Steven Anderson (Owatonna, MN) Ron Anderson (Spokane WA), Sheryl Olson (Mora MN). She was preceded in death by her parents Arvid and Ellen and her brother Elwood. Funeral Service 2PM, Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home.
