Obituary of Harriet A. Holger

Harriet A. Holger, 95, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at GracePointe Crossing The Commons. She was born on March 17, 1922 in Lanesboro Township, MN to Oscar and Mabel (Topness) Greiner. Harriet grew up in the Lanesboro area and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1940. She went on to attend Winona Teacher’s College for two years. After her schooling, she had to stay home and care for her mother and sister. On June 17, 1944, she was united in marriage to Gordon Holger in Fillmore County, MN. While Gordon was serving in the military during WWII, their first daughter Ramona was born. After his discharge, the family moved to Harmony, MN. They had three more children and in 1956 moved to Roseville where the children grew up. In 1957, Gordon and Harriet bought a lot on Paul’s Lake in Cambridge and built a summer cabin there. Gordon would build a home on that same spot in 1971 and they made that their home. Gordon passed away in March 1974. Harriet returned to school and earned a degree as an LPN, and later her RN certificate. She worked over 25 years as a nurse at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, retiring at the age of 75. Harriet continued as a home health care nurse Isanti County until she was into her 80’s. Harriet was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Roseville, where she was active as a Sunday school and confirmation teacher and involved in women’s groups. She had also been a longtime member of Cambridge Lutheran Church and was active in several groups as well. She always referred to herself as “The Jack of All trades and the Master of none”. She was always active throughout her life, loved gardening, camping up north, reading, learning about history, birdwatching, and always had her radio with her to listen to the Minnesota Twins games. She also enjoyed traveling, taking many trips throughout the world. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gordon, sisters Muriel Orlue Greiner, Lois Marie Martin. Harriet is survived by her children Ramona Hermanson of Stillwater, Jeaneen Lewis of Afton, Rollyn Holger of Guatemala City, Guatemala, Joel (Kathleen) Holger of Plymouth, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, as well as other relatives and friends. Funeral Service 11AM, Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Cambridge Lutheran Church. Visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Cambridge Medical Center Foundation, 701 S. Dellwood Street Cambridge, Minnesota.
