Obituary of Sylvia G. Van Someren
Sylvia G. Van Someren, 85, of Princeton was born April 29, 1932 and passed away on May 3, 2017. She was born to John and Mabel Bol near Baldwin, WI and was raised on a small dairy farm. She was united in marriage to Harris Van Someren (“Van”) on December 30, 1952 in Baldwin, WI and then she and Van left for Smokey Hill Air Force Base in Salina, KS where Van was stationed. After Van’s honorable discharge, Sylvia worked at home raising their three children but eventually worked outside the home as a high school foodservice worker and dental assistant. In 1979, Van entered the seminary and Sylvia worked for Lutheran Brotherhood in Minneapolis until his ordination. Sylvia became part of Van’s pastoral ministry in Wisconsin and Minnesota, providing music and Bible study to those they served. Sylvia was a woman of God and spent a great deal of time studying the Bible and in prayer.
Sylvia is survived by her children – Connie (Burt) Bartz of Princeton, MN; Kate (Tom) Law of Minneapolis, MN; and Mike (Kathy) Van Someren of Kalispell, MT; six grandchildren –Katie (Todd) Johnson, Renee (Nate) Mortensen, Jennifer (John) Hamann, Ben (Sarah) Law, Peter Law, and Matthew Van Someren; three great-grandchildren – Henry Johnson, Ingrid Johnson, and Daniel Hamann; and two sisters – Lorraine (Deryl) Alwin and Joyce (Roger) Kok. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harris Van Someren; her parents, John and Mabel Bol; two sisters – Hazel Rens and Marlys Rens; and two great-grandsons – Hunter Mortensen and Ryker Mortensen.
Celebration of Life Service Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 3:00 PM, visitation 1 hour prior, Wyanett Evangelical Free Church, 7036 MN-95, Princeton, MN (7 miles east of Princeton, MN on Hwy 95). Light luncheon and interment to follow. Memorials preferred to Helping Hands Mission (the mission arm of Evangelical Lutheran Bible Fellowship).
