Obituary of Richard A. Johnson
Richard A. Johnson, age 79, was born on September 23, 1937 to parents Elmer and Mabel Johnson. He died May 25, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd, Minnesota.
Richard was a lifetime member of Cambridge Lutheran Church. Graduated from Cambridge High School in 1955. He loved watching and playing any type of sports – especially the Blue Jackets and the Minnesota Twins baseball. He always wore the appropriate t-shirt and cap when watching the games. He umpired softball games and was the “designated groundskeeper’ for the Cambridge ball fields picking up every twig and weed on the field.
Richard loved people, always asking for hugs and carrying lengthy conversations reminiscing about every detail of past sports events and family outings. He loved giving his family gifts including much loved stuffed animals, many votive candles from garage sales or a vase of plastic flowers wrapped in paper with yards of scotch tape. He loved the family cabin on Spectacle Lake, swimming, fishing and visiting all the neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mabel Johnson, brother Charles Johnson and sister Marlene Nelson Porter.
Richard is survived by his sister-in-law Nancy Johnson, niece Jodi Johnson and nephew Brad Nelson and his family.
A private graveside service will be held at Isanti Union Cemetery at a later date.
