Obituary of Patricia Nygaard

Patricia Lee Nygaard, 62, of Linwood passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West after a long hard-fought courageous battle with cancer. She was born on October 5, 1949 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Robert and Doris (Elliott) Enger. Patty grew up in Minneapolis and attended school there, graduating from Southwest High School in 1967. After high school she began working at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital as a candy striper. On September 17, 1971 she was united in marriage to David Nygaard in Southwest, Minneapolis. They lived a time in Southwest Minneapolis, and because of Dave's work lived in the Wisconsin cities of Marion, Fond du Lac, Ashland and Iron River. They moved back to Minneapolis until 1991 when they found their dream lake home in Linwood. Patty worked at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital for 32 years and most recently worked as Health Unit Coordinator in Station 8000. Patty was a member of the SEIU Union. She enjoyed gardening, re-finishing furniture, and especially loved her dogs. She was an avid Twins fan along with her brother Steve. Patty was very much a part of Dave's racing efforts. She was also a secret closet Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan. Patty and Dave had a wonderful summer in 1977 in Ashland, WI when they were foster parents to two little girls Dana and Dolly. She was preceded in death by her father, brothers Gary and Steven Enger, her best four legged friends Penny, Jackie, Kelly, Jewell and May. Patty is survived by her husband of 40 years Dave of Linwood, mother Doris Manthey of Henderson, NV, brother Mark and wife Kristy Enger of Boise, ID, her dogs Molly and Flikka, nieces Wendy and Alicia, nephews Christopher and Ben, as well as other relatives and friends. A special thank you to her surgeon, Dr. Sielof and her oncologist Dr. Seng for their wonderful care and counseling.
