Obituary of Grace H. Ward

Grace Harriet Ward, 99, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at GracePointe Crossing Gables West.

She was born November 23, 1918 in Fargo, North Dakota to Theodore and Minnie (Halverson) Kyllo.  Grace grew up in the Fargo area, attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran School in 1936.  She worked for her brother’s family helping with the children and later lived with a doctor’s family and worked for them for a few years.

On August 18, 1940 she was united in marriage to Lyle Ward at Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church near Fargo.  They lived in Fargo for a couple of years before moving to a farm in Lockhart, MN, where they farmed and raised their two children. In October 1956, the family  moved to a farm in Halma, MN.  Then, in 1969 they moved back to Fargo.  In 1991, they retired and moved to Cambridge to be near their daughter.  Lyle passed away on September 21, 1992.

Grace was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church while in Fargo, and was an active member of Joy Lutheran Church in Cambridge where she was involved with the women’s groups and also led bible study groups at Ashland Place.  She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and traveling.  She and Lyle went on trips with the senior tour groups during their retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lyle; son David in September 2011; siblings Gilbert and Archie Kyllo, Ethel Quam, Marian Johnson, Pearl Colby, Doris Johnson, and half brother Richard Kyllo.  Grace is survived by her daughter Darlene (Wayne)  Calander of Cambridge, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Grace left a legacy of love and wisdom to her grateful family. We are truly blessed.
