Allie Burnquist

Obituary of Allie B. Burnquist

Allie Bader Burnquist, now healthy, happy and whole is with Jesus, having gone home on December 31, 2017. Born in Minneapolis on November 6, 1932 to German immigrants Emily (Broesamle) and Eugene Bader, Allie was the youngest of three girls, Alice and Betty, respectively.  Allie was a graduate of Anoka High School. She attended Spring Lake Park Baptist Church (SLPBC) as a youth.  It was there Allie met her soulmate, Richard Burnquist; they married August 8, 1953. While living in Mounds View, Allie worked in the library at Edgewood Junior High and volunteered in various capacities at SLPBC.  Together, in 1971, Dick, Allie, and their two children, Cheryl and Todd, moved to Cambridge as new owners and operators of the Cambridge Bible Bookstore (previously located in Braham).  The pair chose to provide the community with a faith-based retail service and spiritual resource. The bookstore was the Burnquists’ form of God’s witness.  And through it they formed incredible relationships and friendships in Jesus.  Dick and Allie worked together until his passing in 1988 from a rare neurological disease. During Dick’s illness, Allie maintained the bookstore and served as her husband’s primary caregiver from which she found great purpose.  Due to Allie’s own declining health the family business was sold in 2006.

Allie, mother to Todd Burnquist and Cheryl Burnquist Linder, grandmother to Alyssa Burger, Andrew Burger, and Angela Burger Lindell, great-grandmother to Elijah, Isak, Ryker, Jayce, Lucy, and Remy, is remembered as a generous, determined, nature-loving woman of God. Her faith was first, family was second, and pets were her most beloved. Allie’s grandchildren remember her night-time cabin stories, her silly facial expressions, and her desire for all those she loved to know Jesus.

Allie is survived by Todd, Cheryl, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters Betty Ginn (Minneapolis) and Alice Dalbey (Mora) and many nieces and nephews.
