Obituary of Norris G. Shugren
Norris G. Shugren, 81, of Cambridge, passed away on January 15, 2018 at GracePointe Crossing Gables East.
Norris was born on September 1, 1936, in a farm house west of Grandy, to Eugene and Doris (Edblad) Shugren. He attended country schools and graduated from Cambridge High in 1954 and the University of Minnesota Ag School in 1956.
Norris milked cows and farmed for a time, then married Sally Eggert on September 13, 1958. He served in the Army Reserve and as a substitute mail carrier, but his working years were spent in the dairy industry. His first sales position was with West Agro Chemical and he later retired from Kleen Test Products in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He traveled the U.S. for his work, which was important to him. He always said ‘If you like your work, you haven’t worked a day in your life’ and he loved his work.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and collecting ‘stuff’. He had his 1950 pickup restored as well as a 1953 tractor that his father had purchased new. The time he spent at the cabin with family and friends was very special to him.
Norris was a lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church in Dalbo, where he taught Sunday School and served on various committees and boards.
Norris was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Neil.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; children Neil (Diane) Shugren, Peter (Jen) Shugren, Brenda Koester (John), Kim (Jim) Hanson, Kurt Koester; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and his cousin John Shugren, who visited him weekly.
Funeral Services will be held at 11AM, Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Salem Lutheran Church of Dalbo. Visitation will begin at 9:30AM prior to the service at the church.
