Cambridge Jr High in the early ‘70’s must have been one of Mr. Struss’ first teaching jobs. How he managed to have such unlimited patience while surrounded by goofy 13 year olds is beyond me! But he did, and was dearly loved for his efforts. He had the best dry humor and was great with the expressionless, deadpan comeback to any smart-alecky comment! So funny!
Like so many others who were students of Mr. Struss’, it is hard to believe how many years have passed since I was sitting in his English class. We are on this earth for such a short time, but I am lucky that his life made an impression on mine.

I have many wonderful memories of Mr. Struss while at CMS. He was one of my favorites for sure! Mr. Struss was my advisory teacher as well as my 8th grade English teacher, so I was in his room EVERY morning for four years (1981-1984). I remember learning about Greek mythology as well as reading the classic Dickens novel, Great Expectations. Not only did we learn academics but also Mr. Struss taught us empathy and compassion for others. He was a marvelous man. I thank the good Lord for having a teacher such as he!
What is most memorable about M. Struss was how he kept a tight ship in his classroom yet honored his students. He was quick to let you know if you were out of line, yet always had a smile and a light hearted joke to smooth over any hard feelings you may have had towards him. He was always positive at parent conferences, speaking so highly of me. This always amazed me, because I didn’t think there was much good to say about me, but Mr. Struss in his wisdom used this opportunity to gift me grace, even when I didn’t deserve it. A picture of what Jesus Christ has done for all who accept his free gift of salvation.
His encouragement and acceptance of me as young boy, helped to shape the man who I am today. Though, back in the early 80’s I really did not like English or reading, now I love to read and I have been working as a special education teacher for the last 24 years helping kids to read and write. Mr. Struss you have impacted me in many positive ways and I thank you for that. You will be missed!

Chad, Nancy and all --
As the head of a regional sports officials association some years back, I had the privilege of 'employing' your Dad & husband for a couple of seasons.
His punctuality, reliability, knowledge of the rules, attention to detail, and unflappability 'under fire' were hallmarks of a man who knew himself, and who also knew how to reasonably communicate with often unreasonable players, coaches and fans.
Wish that some of his fellow officials would had exhibited those same skills.
Thanks for the memories.
Rest in Peace.

I was saddened to hear this news, I'm sorry for your loss and heartache. I had Mr. Struss for English, and remember his dry sense of humor and his smile. I graduated in 1981, but remember his class like it was yesterday!

Nancy, Carrie, Chad, Bryan, and Family:
We are very saddened to hear the news of Steve’s passing. You are in our hearts and prayers. Having taught with Steve at Cambridge Middle School for over 20 years, memories are ever present and we would like to share some of them with you.
Steve’s wisdom, professionalism, and “cutting edge” (best practice) teaching style brought him to “Mount Everest” levels in education. He “invited” students to learn. In fact, Steve taught all of us.
Proverbs 15: 13 states, “A glad heart maketh a cheerful countenance”; Steve’s exceptional teaching collegiality was interlaced with his unmatched sense of humor. He was a major contributor to the positive atmosphere at Cambridge Middle School with his kindness and grace.
Steve was the “king of trivia” with the challenges he had for Bill Kast and me. It seemed that He knew every “oldies but goodies” song and artist of the 50s and 60s. Steve would stump us all the time!
A more recent memory of Steve was when he was assisted Chad with his campaign for Auditor – Treasurer for Isanti County, and they stopped by our home. What a perfect father and son relationship.
Prayers,
Bob and Lois Salo

Chad and family - I'm so sorry to hear of Steve's passing! Like so many others, he was my 8th grade English teacher at Cambridge Junior High and instilled in me a love for words and language that has lasted my whole life. He was a great teacher and one of my very favorites. It was always fun to bump into him around town and chat for a bit...I loved that dry sense of humor. He will most definitely be missed and, again, I'm so sorry for your loss. Praying for you and your family.

Nancy and family,
I am so sorry to hear about Steve, my thoughts and prayers for you and the Struss family.
Steve was one of my English teacher in Jr.High (what is now the MIddle School) and also my basketball coach! He was a fun and awesome teacher! I remember all the bus rides and the fun we had as a team. I saw him not to long ago while he was walking the dogs and while we were talking it started to sprinkle and I said, " Sorry, I stop and chatted now your babies can't go on their walk." He smiled and said it is good talking to you and they won't get wet now! He waved and said goodbye. I will always have him in my heart! Thank you for sharing your husband, father with so many students! God bless you and your family, may he comfort you in his loving arms.
