Obituary of Raymond Podabinski

Raymond Daniel Podabinski, 72, of Silver Bay, formerly of Cambridge died on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Lakeview Hospital in Two Harbors. He was born on April 13, 1940 in Spring Valley, Illinois to John and Clara Podabinski. Ray grew up in Spring Valley and graduated from high school in 1958. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. Ray made a career in the military, he served in the special forces and was stationed in Germany, and many areas through the United States. While in Germany he met his future wife Erika and they were married on June 6, 1962. They had two daughters Petra and Cindy. They lived a time in Germany and moved back to the states residing throughout many states before moving to Cambridge. Ray worked as an Army Recruiter in Cambridge. He retired from the Army in 1981, and would go on to work for the Post Office and also Grand Casino in Hinckley. After his retirement he lived in Florida, Wisconsin, and Tennessee. In March of this year he moved to the Veteran's Home in Silver Bay. Raymond enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, second wife Velma, brothers Jack and Joe. Ray is survived by his daughters Petra and husband Dale Lindner of Cambridge, Cindy and husband Wes Holschuh of Hinckley, five grandchildren Kathleen Lindner of St. Cloud, Brian (Becky) Lindner of Mora, Victoria Holschuh of St. Paul, Jessica (Buddy) Quam of Hinckley, Warren Holschuh of Hinckley, eight great grandchildren Isabelle, Amelia, Logan, Joy, Jack, Andie, Grace and Ava, former wife Erika of St. Paul, as well as numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
