Obituary of Walter Allen Lundin
Walter Allen Lundin age 79, of Cambridge passed away June 30th at the JA Wedum Residential Hospice in Brooklyn Park with family at his side. He was born May 26, 1939 on the family farm near Dalbo, MN to parents Clifford and Mable (Lindgren) Lundin.
Walter attended country school and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1957. He met and married Sharon Nelson and to this union two daughters were born Julie and Susan. They spent 52 years together until Sharon’s death in 2015.
Being raised on a farm he quickly picked up skills to repair or fabricate almost anything. Always improving or inventing equipment to make jobs around the farm easier. With this background the welding trade became his trade for life. He worked for Schlagel’s in Cambridge, Standard Iron in Minneapolis and finally for FMC where he was a proud member of the union of auto workers for over 30 years. Walter never stopped fixing and inventing. He was always found in his home shop working on a project, either of his own or for whoever brought something over. He never turned down a challenge.
Finally, health problems became something he couldn’t fix and after the loss of his wife Sharon, he began to decline. He was able to remain in his home with the aid of the wonderful help of the Allina Hospice and the caring people who helped him in his final months. A special thank you to his neighbors Doug and Julie, Dave, LeLand, brother-in-law Paul, friends LaDonna, Chris, Maynard and Judy and everyone else who was there for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon (Nelson), and daughter Julie.
He is survived by daughter Susan, son-in-law Ben Borja, grandchildren Benjamin (Marissa) Borja, Suzanne (Cory) Hart, Rhende (Matt) Ward, great grandchildren Juliet, Harper Anne, Bennett, Evelyn, Cannon, Caleb, sister Ann (James) Langeberg and brothers John (Teri) and David (Bonnie).
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday July 5th at Salem Lutheran Church in Dalbo, MN at 2pm with visitation one hour prior to service.
