Obituary of Steven Robert Gunderson

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that our loving husband, father and friend, Pastor Steven Gunderson, went on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 29^th, 2019 in Cambridge, MN at the age of 63.  Although deeply saddened, we have peace in our hearts knowing that he is living on joyfully and eternally with his Lord and Savior, and his legacy lives on through his loving family. 

            Steven was born in Princeton, MN to Elgin Gunderson and Trese Carstens on November 10^th, 1955.  He went to Cambridge High School where he excelled at athletics and performing arts and graduated with the class of 1974.  September 22^nd 1979, Steven married the love of his life, Kim Rene Seymore.  They shared a devoted and passionate 40 years together and built a family of 5 loving children.  In 1987 upon graduation from bible school, Steve and Kim became resident ministers at Rushing Wind, a spiritual retreat center, ministering to outdoorsmen in Ontario, Canada.  They later founded Victory Christian Center in Cambridge while supporting missions across the world.  The church recently celebrated their 28^th year anniversary.  While devoting his life to pastoral ministry, he continued to work in the car business as an honest businessman where he earned the national award of salesman of the year.  Steven loved to spend time in the woods hunting, writing and contemplating; he believed that God’s true beauty was found within nature and passed that love on to his children.  Steve’s life was a testament to God’s grace and faithfulness and it is through this that his impact continues on.

            Steven was preceded in death by his mother and father, Trese and Elgin Gunderson, his niece, Laura Anlauf and his best friend Paul Dunbar.

            He is survived by his wife, Kim Gunderson, and his children, Paige Gunderson (Orlando Watts) of Albuquerque, NM; Harbour Gunderson of Tulare, CA; Taylor (Daniel) Hines of Northfield, MN; Madelyn Gunderson of Sydney, Australia; and Ian Gunderson of Champlin MN.  Also, his Step-mother, Diane Gunderson of Corpus Christi, TX; Brother, Bradley (Shelley) Gunderson of Fort Meyers, FL, sister Lynda Gunderson of Goodyear, AZ; sister Diane (Jeff) Anlauf of Cambridge, MN; sister Gail (Curt) Scherer of Hayward, WI; brother David (Jennifer) Gunderson of Collierville, TN and sister Ginny (Scott) Cross of Corpus Christi, TX; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews, life time friends and his devoted congregation.

            Services will be held on Saturday, February 9^th, 2019 at Cambridge Lutheran Church.  Visitation begins at 11am and the Celebration of Steven’s life will begin at 12pm
