Obituary of Harold Puhl

Harold Charles Puhl Sr., 83, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. He was born May 18, 1924 in Elroy, Wisconsin to Paul and Ruth (Hayden) Puhl. He grew up in Wonnewoc, Wisconsin where he attended school. After completing his schooling, Harold joined the United States Army in March 1943. He served during World War II and was stationed in Northern France, Italy, North Africa, and later Germany where he worked in cleaning up the concentration camps. He was honorably discharged in November 1945. On May 21, 1949 he was united in marriage to Rose Ludvigsen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheldon, Wisconsin. They made their home in Sheldon where Harold worked at the Sheldon Co-op and later sold Berg Cleaner Equipment. Harold would later moved to Minneapolis to begin work at Gardner Hardware and his family would follow shortly thereafter in 1959. Harold worked at Gardner for over 30 years and retired in 1988. He and Rose remained in Minneapolis until 1997 when they moved to Cambridge. In 1991 Harold purchased a lake home and enjoyed spending time with his family there. Harold was a jack-of-all-trades and even invented and sold lake weed cutters. He was always willing to help anybody and taught his family many things over the years. He enjoyed spending time working with his Ford tractor, liked traveling, fishing, dancing, playing cards, bird-watching, was an avid Twins and Vikings Fan. He especially loved and admired all of his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Harold Jr., brothers Fred, Bob, and Hank, sisters Frieda, Irene, Alma and Betsy. Harold is survived by his wife Rose of Cambridge, children Jerry Puhl of Cambridge, Jeanne Puhl of Minneapolis, Paulette and husband Bruce Waldhoff of Cedar, Roscoe Puhl of Minneapolis, Karen and husband Brian Francisco of Brooklyn Park, Kathy and husband John Mikkola of Maple Grove, 13 grandchildren, Kim, Denny, Amy, Natalie, Clint, Emily, Sheila, Jennifer, Valerie, Kelly, Brent, Sonia and Luke, 19 great grandchildren, brothers Burt and wife Irene Puhl of Wonnewoc, WI, John and wife Regena Puhl of Reedsburg, WI, as well as many other relatives and friends.
