Obituary of Darle Scott
Darle Ferne (Schrader) Scott, 97, of Braham Minnesota, passed peacefully to the Lord on November 5, 2012 at St. Clare Living Community, Mora, MN. Darle was born on June 20, 1915 in Des Moines, Iowa to Carleton Henry Schrader and Edna (Cornish) Schrader. Darle grew up in Des Moines. There she graduated from business school where she excelled in secretarial skills and was a member of the National Honor Society. She enjoyed using her secretarial skills and after moving to Los Angeles, CA, she became an executive secretary to the vice president of a national insurance firm. In 1941, Darle met the love of her life, George Guy Scott, from Outlook, Montana; they were married in 1942. As it was wartime, George enlisted in the Army Air Corp (later renamed the US Air Force). Darle was able to move with George throughout his enlistment, often serving as a legal secretary on base.
Darle and George enjoyed the city life, but chose to move to Outlook to raise their family in a small, caring community. Dryland wheat farming was their life for many years, and Darle quickly learned the rigors of prairie living. Her first stove was a coal stove, and running water came from the hand pump. She enjoyed picking Juneberries and spent many summer days canning hundreds of jars of fruit with her daughters. When George was asked to manage the local Farmers Co-op service station, Darle became the bookkeeper. After working as a team for 21 years, they were able to retire and travel in the U.S. and Europe, visit with family and friends, and pursue their hobbies. Darle was a passionate gardener and a member of several garden clubs in Montana and Minnesota. She enjoyed creating miniature dollhouses in her free time. Her miniature "Homestead Shack" will soon be on exhibit at the Istanti County Museum.
Darle moved to Braham in 1990, following the death of her husband, George; they celebrated 48 years of marriage. Darle was a member of the Highland Lutheran Church in Outlook and the Calvary Lutheran Church at Rush Lake. She was a Sunday School teacher, a Bible study leader, a Bethel Bible study teacher, a Girl Scout leader, and a vigorous walker. Few could keep pace with her!
Darle loved the Lord and honored Him throughout her life, and it is comforting to know that she is now with Him. Family and friends feel blessed to have had her in their lives.
Darle was preceded in death by her husband, George Scott, her sister, Dwan Schrader Beveridge, and her son-in-law, Gary Ostrom. She is survived by her daughter, Janet Strand (James) of Yorba Linda, CA, her daughter Dana Yurich (Gordon) of Stanchfield, MN, her grandchildren, Carey (Casey) Terhune, Christopher Strand, and Scott Ostrom, as well as her great grandchildren, Summer and Landon Terhune, three nieces, and a nephew.
