Obituary of Edna Rystrom

Edna Carlson Rystrom was born on a farm in Spring Lake to Alfred and Sibley Carlson, April 19, 1913. She was baptized and confirmed at Spring Lake Lutheran Church and remained a faithful member. Edna went to school through the 8th grade and lived on the farm until she married Ben Rystrom on May 26, 1936. Ben and Edna first lived in an apartment in Cambridge and then bought a house, also in Cambridge, where they lived for many years. They later sold their house and moved into an apartment. Ben and Edna like to fish and rented a cabin at a nearby lake. Edna, however, did not eat fish! Ben passed away in 1981, when they lived at the apartment. Edna continued to drive her car many years after Ben's death. She worked at the Leader, Cambridge Launderers, and the Cambridge State Hospital, from which she retired at age 65. Edna loved to travel! After Ben passed away she took many trips. Her travels included Hawaii, Sweden, the Canadian Rockies, as well as many trips to California, Kansas, and other parts of the United States. She loved her church, Spring Lake Lutheran, and was their oldest member. When she was no longer able to drive, Lois Johnson kindly picked her up every Sunday as long as Edna was able to attend. She loved to go to Kaffe Stuga for pork chops after church. Edna was also willing to help at church when needed. She made spritz cookies and buns for the bake sales and also worked at the annual Krup Kakkor supper. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Sibley Carlson, her husband, Ben, and three brothers, Philip, Allen, and Henning. She is survived by niece Gloria (Roger) Carlson of Cambridge, nephews John (Betty) Rystrom of Soderville, Joe (LaVonne) Rystrom of Chisago City, Deloris (Lee) Craig of Kansas City, MO, Susan Smith of Minneapolis, Richard Carlson, Marlene Egelkraut of Minneapolis, Barbara (Delano) Olson of North Branch, as well as several other nieces, nephews, and many friends. Special thanks to Grace Point Crossing for all the excellent care Edna was given.
