Obituary of Maureen Day
Maureen L. Day, 81, of Cambridge died on Monday, January 21, 2008 at St. Benedict Home in St. Cloud, MN.
Maureen Louise Day was born on June 30, 1926, to Merrell and Ruth (Winnell) Day in Minneapolis, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Maureen graduated from Anoka High School in 1944 and started working for the phone company in Anoka at that time. She entered into management and was soon transferred to Buffalo and also worked as chief operator in Mora, MN. During that time she was called upon to do training all over the western part of the state. In May of 1953 Maureen was transferred to Cambridge with Northwestern Bell. She no doubt could have risen further up the company ladder, had she been willing to transfer around, but found the people and atmosphere of Cambridge very friendly and decided to make this her home. In March of 1983 Maureen closed the office door oat Northwestern Bell's business office in Cambridge. For Maureen it marked the end of a career with the phone company that spanned almost 40 years.
Maureen will be remembered as one who loved to help all people; her traveling that took her to the Holy Land, Norway, Sweden, China, Holden Village just to mention a few, and her love for bowling. She bowled with the local teams and bowled in many national tournaments. After her retirement she worked as a dietary aide part time at Grandview Christian Home and also at the local hospital. She was very active in Cambridge Lutheran Church, serving on many of the committees and also serving on several community committees.
Maureen is survived by twin sisters, Ruth (Day) Berg of Grand Forks, N.D., and Naomi Day (Robert) Cutler of Las Vegas, New Mexico; brother Robert Day of Hemet, California, and sister-in-law Marilyn Day of West Allis, Wisconsin. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and many, many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack Day, brother-in-law Curtis Berg, and sister-in-law Mrs. Robert Day.
