Obituary of Audrey Spier

Audrey Leona Spier, 86, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at the Cambridge Medical Center. She was born December 3, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Alden and Anna (Larsen) West. Audrey grew up in Minneapolis and attended Patrick Henry High School. After her schooling she went to Seattle and worked in the shipyards during World War II with her sister Jeanette. She returned to Minneapolis and began working at Munsingwear, where she met Hazel Spier. Audrey was introduced to Hazel's brother Dennis and on June 21, 1947 they were married at Fairview Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Minneapolis until 1952 when they purchased a home in Crystal. Audrey worked at Kresge Stores for a time before working several years at Nabisco/Cream of Wheat, retiring in 1981. After retiring Dennis and Audrey moved to Rush Lake and enjoyed their time there. Dennis passed away in June 1992. In 2006 Audrey moved to the Real Life Cooperative in Cambridge and in 2012 moved in with her daughter Becky in Stanchfield. Audrey was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church of Rush Point and was active with the Rush Point Leisure Club. Dennis and Audrey spent winters at their home in Florence, AZ. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with family, going on yearly fishing trips, went on trips to Germany and met family members in Norway. She also enjoyed visiting her daughter Sandy in New York and Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 45 years Dennis, beloved aunt Esther Larsen, sister Jeanette Harkness, brother Linden West. Audrey is survived by daughters Sandra Spier of Brooklyn, New York, Rebecca Kowitz and companion Tony MacDermott, cherished sister Eleanor Erickson, sister-in-law Bonnie Seiferth, brother-in-law Roland Spier, beloved niece Sharon Kirchner whom she called her third daughter, Suzan Bittner who called her mom, special nieces Kathleen Smith, Judith Harkness, and Terrie Bares, her special grand-dogs Lily and Charlie, other loving nieces, nephews, cousins here and in Norway, and lifelong friends.
