Obituary of Gladys Gustafson
Gladys Hermina Gustafson, 88, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the New Brighton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on April 16, 1919 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Burton and Bella Roisland. Gladys grew up in Thief River Falls and attended school through the eighth grade. After her schooling she moved to Minneapolis and worked as a housekeeper for a few years. She moved to Isanti County where she met Roy Gustafson. They were married on March 1, 1941.
Roy and Gladys made their home in Isanti County. In 1942 they bought a farm in Athens Township next to his parents and both families worked together farming. Roy and Gladys farmed together for over 27 years and retired from farming in 1969. They spent their retirement years traveling and camping throughout the United States and also enjoyed hobby farming and spending time growing their large vegetable garden.
After failing health, Roy passed away in 1986. Gladys remained on the farm until 2000 when she sold it and moved to Pine Village.
Gladys enjoyed crocheting, needle work, flower gardening, and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Gary in 1964, husband Roy, sister Bessie Roisland, brothers Obert, Gilmore and Henry Roisland.
Gladys is survived by her daughter Janet Gustafson and husband Morry Sorenson of Osakis, son Roger and wife Patsy Gustafson of North Branch, seven grandchildren Sharon and husband Gary Forsyth of South Haven, Susan and husband Mike Dehkes of Cambridge, Michael and wife Heather Ward of Cambridge, Kari Gustafson of Chang Mai, Thailand, Craig Gustafson and fiancée Patty Ryan of Lahoya, CA, Jimmie Ward and fiancée Kelly Sandell of Braham, Brent Gustafson of Ft. Mead, MD, three great grandchildren Ryan Ward, Alissa Ward and Brittany Ward, brother Ben and wife Shirley Roisland of Columbia Heights, sister-in-law Rosie Roisland of Greenbush, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
