Obituary of Ronald Nelson
Ronald E. "Doc" Nelson of Cambridge, died on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the age of 84 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 22, 1929 to Albert and Agnes (Palm) Nelson in Princeton, Minnesota. During his childhood he lived on a farm in Athens Township and later on a farm in St. Francis. After graduation from St. Francis high school in 1947, Ron attended the University of Minnesota. He married Betty Porter on September 17, 1949 and to this union were born three children: Brenda, Brian and Theresa.
Ron enlisted in the US Air Force in April 1951 and served as an Air Traffic Controller in Japan during the Korean conflict. Once discharged, he enrolled in Northwestern Chiropractic College. Eventually, in 1962, he and Betty moved to Cambridge where he worked as a Chiropractor until 1982. During the 1970s, he became an avid Bluejacket athletics fan. (He would often treat the athletes for no fee what-so-ever.)
In 1982 he discontinued his Chiropractic practice, formed an athletic brace company, "Mikros", and eventually formed a professional partnership with Mueller Sports Medicine Company. Ron was very proud of the 31 athletic and orthopedic braces patents he held. He remained a consultant to Mueller Sports Medicine until very recently.
In 1995 Ron married Kathy Bohl (following the death of Betty). He loved nature, hunting, basketball and softball. His family, immediate and extended, was the focus of his life. He loved to sing loud and proud, especially to his grandchildren, even though he could not carry a tune.
Ron is survived by his wife Kathy and his children, Brenda (Daniel) Oslund, Brian Nelson, and Theresa (Scott) Johnson; grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Betsy and Erik Oslund, Justin Nelson, Jake and Luke Johnson, Kathy's children Heidi and Jason Bohl. He is also survived by his sister Marian (Syd) Reed and brothers Pat (Katie) Nelson and Gerald (Jeannie) Nelson and sister-in-law Joyce Nelson.
Ronald was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his parents and siblings Marjorie Ackerson, Vernal Nelson, Dorothy Arthur, Morris Nelson and Marvel Lange.
