Obituary of Robert Botten

Robert A. Botten, of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the Cambridge Health Care Center one day short of his 72nd birthday. Robert Alan Botten was born February 13, 1936 to Selmer and Clarinda (Peterson) Botten of Montevideo, MN. Bob grew up and attended school in Montevideo. During his high school years he worked at a local gas station �" Ford garage. He enjoyed spending quality time with his best friend Dave Offerman, duck hunting, deer hunting and just hanging out together with their cars. In March 1956 he joined the Air Force and attended basic training at Parks AFB, California, technical school at Chanute AFB, Illinois and was stationed at O'Hara, Chicago, IL. He served temporary duty at Wheeler AFB in Libya, Nouasseur AB in Morocco and Cozaux AB in France. Bob was an Aircraft Electrician working on F-100, B-57 and H-21 aircrafts. He loved talking about his airplanes. Bob received an honorable discharge in November 1959. On June 3, 1961 Bob was united in marriage to Marlys Giese at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Danvers, MN. They moved to Minneapolis where Bob attended and graduated from Dunwoody Institute and began working at Onan. They moved to Cambridge in 1968. Bob retired from Onan in 1995 and would later work for Vern Weltsch. Bob enjoyed camping with his family starting in 1966 until about 1997. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, curling, and later years watching sports on television as well as hunting, fishing and history programs and spending time visiting with friends. Bob was an active member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and as an usher. Bob is survived by his wife of 46 years Marlys, son John and wife Muriel of St. Paul, daughter Jenine and husband Scott Taylor of Ridgeland, WI, ten grandchildren Jean-Paul and Louisa Botten, Nicholas, Benjamin, Gabrielle, Stephanie, Daniel, Breanna, Cosette and Frances Taylor, sister Carolyn and husband Stan Knudson of Montevideo, sister-in-law Lucille Pederson of Hutchinson, Delores Berglund of Rudiso, NM, brother-in-law Gerald Giese and wife Mary of Eagle Lake, MN, and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant granddaughter Isabelle Botten and infant grandson Nathan Taylor.
