Obituary of George Leisure
George Vernon Leisure, of Cambridge passed away on his 75th birthday on Tuesday, October 1, 2013.
He was born Octber 1, 1938 in Watertown, South Dakota to Elmer Goodroad and Roena Mae Leisure. The family lived in several areas in South Dakota, Wisconsin and Minnesota before settling in Lindstrom, MN. George graduated from Lindstrom High School in 1956. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in January 1962. After the navy, George worked various jobs and in 1965 began working for northwestern Bell Telephone Company. He would go on to retire from Qwest in 1999.
In 1958 he was united in marriage to Mary Gladman and they had three sons. They lived outside of Cambridge for a few years before buying the house just north of Cambridge where he was still living. He and Mary later divorced. On February 6, 1994 he married Susan Flett in Bullhead City, AZ and they lived in George's home.
He was a life member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association. George enjoyed reading, woodworking, watching Western Movies, and was a trapshooting fanatic. He and Susan traveled throughout the U.S. for pleasure and for trapshooting tournaments. George did many things for a lot of people and the most important thing was to take care of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack, and first wife Mary. George is survived by his wife Susan of Cambridge, children Patrick Leisure Sr. of Cloquet, Michael Leisure of Cloquet, Timothy Leisure of Minneapolis, Melissa Hass (Michael) of Big Lake, Russell Flett (Tammy) of Princeton, six grandchildren, Patrick Jr., Riley, Gavin, Maddy, Mason and McKenna, brother Elmer Goodroad of Florida, as well as numerous other relatives, loyal friends and neighbors.
