Although we haven't seen Doug for years, I wanted to share a memory of him from the past. Dave & I had stopped on our way home from town for a short visit with Doug & Ellen at their home when we got a call from our daughter, Shauna, who was home by herself at the time. Shauna had become frightened when a stranger's car had pulled into the driveway and called us at Fredlund's home. We advised her to make sure the door was locked & not to open it if the stranger came to the door. Then we jumped in our car & sped toward home. Meanwhile, Doug stayed on the phone with Shauna until we arrived home, thankfully, to find her safe & sound. We were so grateful that he was there for her and calmed her fears.
Shauna recounts:
"The details are a little fuzzy, but I think I remember the car pulling in and that they stayed for awhile…and maybe even knocked on the door? Obviously I don't recall exactly what was said, but I remember Doug telling me stories and making me laugh while we were on the phone. I thought he was so gentle, kind and funny. I was surprised and sad to hear the news about his death."
Coincidently, although I don't believe Doug & Shauna ever talked about careers, years later she also attended Brown Institute and began a career in radio broadcasting, first at KBEK radio in Mora and then in Pierre, SD and Winona, MN before changing careers.

After meeting Doug for the first time, my husband Keith asked me how I liked him. I said , oh alright , he seems to think he knows everything. Keith said that's because he does! After a second visit, I realized, what a really nice person Doug was and that he knew a lot about a lot of things! I think Doug was one of the smartest humans I've ever had the pleasure of having a friendship with. There is a great void in our lives right now. Thank goodness that void will be filled with the love and great memories that our friend Doug Fredlund leaves behind for us . Heaven just got themselves one great bass player!

I first met Doug through the MN Jaycees.He was a Great Man and became my friend for life.He used to come to Milaca and ride in the Parade for KBEK.I loved to listen to Him on the radio,I remember when He told me the story of how He had gotten His Heart,and how He was so thankful to the Family for Donating a part of their Loved one, to Him.

So sad to hear about Doug. We met when he and I worked at KANO radio in Anoka nearly 40 years ago. Got in touch again in recent years and had the opportunity to sped an after noon with him at an ice race near Isanti just a few years ago. Condolences to the family.
