Obituary of Violet Olson
Violet Mae Donaldson Groskreutz Olson, 94, of Cambridge passed away on Friday, February 15, 2008 at the Grandview Christian Home after suffering a broken hip in a fall.
Violet was born on September 17, 1913; an identical twin to sister Viola; in Koochiching County, Minnesota to Peter and Agnes (Holiday) Donaldson. She grew up on a farm with three brothers and five sisters.
Violet married Otto Groskreutz after high school and they had two children, Ramona and Larry. Otto passed away in 1943 and Violet raised her children alone. She worked at the Scenic Hotel Café in Northome for many years. She met Walter Olson and they were married in 1965. They made their home in Cambridge. Walter had three children whom Violet grew to love as her own. Violet joined the Lutheran Church in Cambridge and was a loyal member. She and Walter had many friends and enjoyed snowmobiling, card parties, picnics and just having the family together at holidays. She really enjoyed having all of the children visit her at Christmas time. There were many happy times with all the family and grandkids around particularly at the holiday seasons. She enjoyed attending church every Sunday and was disappointed when the time came that she was unable to attend because of physical problems.
Walter passed away in 1990 and Violet continued to live in their home until health forced her to move to an apartment. There she had many friends and enjoyed the daily activities at Riverwood Village.
She was preceded in death by husband Walter, two sisters, her twin Viola and sister Anne, three brothers and daughter Joyce Holt.
Violet enjoyed her many grand children and great grandchildren.
