Obituary of Leonard Heineman

Leonard (Lenny) A. Heineman, 73, died on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at his home. He was born on June 1, 1940 to Walter and Alice (Midthun) Heineman in Crosby, Minnesota. The Heineman family moved away from Crosby for a few years to Big Fork, MN but returned to Crosby where he then graduated from Crosby Ironton High School in 1958. Following high school, Lenny joined the army and served basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. While serving on the ore boats on the Great Lakes Lenny met the love of his life Shirley Edquist and they married on February 18, 1961. Shortly afterward, they moved to St. Paul when a change in career prompted a move to Staples MN where he attended Staples Industrial Technical Trade School and graduated with a degree in drafting. After graduation from Technical school the family moved to Cambridge, MN, where they settled. Together, Lenny and Shirley started Heineman Painting, Inc. in 1980, which continues to be a family business today. He was a member of the Cambridge Lutheran Church. Lenny had a passion for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and scouted small and big game throughout the United States and Canada. Some of his other favorite activities included long walks, hiking, flying lessons, fishing and vacationing with his Shirley throughout the United States. Spending time with family and friends gave him great joy. He is survived by his wife Shirley, children, Randy (Brenda) Heineman and Michele (Tom) Schoenecker; his grandchildren, Jay (Cheryl) and Justin Heineman; Anthony, Eric (Faith), Bria and Emma Schoenecker; his great grandchildren, Ryan and Gavin; siblings: Joyce, Dick (Tess), Linda and Sharon (Jack) Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Alice Heineman.
