Obituary of Shirley Gabrielson

Shirley M. Gabrielson, of Cambridge passed away in her sleep at Scandia House in Mora on January 2, 2014 at the age of 91. Shirley Mae Gabrielson was born in Duluth, MN on May 4, 1922 to Myrtle Berglund and Roy Olson. She was baptized at Cambridge Lutheran Church July 1, 1922, confirmed on June 5, 1938 and continued to be an active member of the church. On March 9, 1940 she married Clifford Laurence Norman and they farmed together north of Cambridge. Two children were born to this union - Gerald (Jerry) and Gayle Marie. Clifford passed away December 15, 1950 and Shirley remained on the farm raising her children. On March 3, 1956 she married James Gabrielson and became Mom to his two sons David and Roger. They continued farming and built a herd of over 100 dairy cattle. Shirley was so close to her farm animals that she named every cow. Jim passed away December 17, 1993 and shortly after Shirley moved to town and then later to Scandia House Assisted Living. Shirley loved her family and animals (especially her dogs). She also took pride in gardening, flowers, quilting, serving with the women's groups at church, working at the Shalom in Cambridge, and having neighbors or family stop at the farm on Sunday afternoons for sandwiches and jello. Always jello! Besides Clifford and Jim, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Russell and Robert, and son-in-law Clark Bergloff. She is survived by children: Jerry (Sue) Norman of Cambridge, Gayle Bergloff of Mora, David (Arlene) Gabrielson of Mankato, and Roger (Rose) Gabrielson of Brookings, OR; grandchildren Collin (Stephanie) Norman, Cory (Teri) Norman, Jenny (Ty) Houglum, Katie (Joe) Santjer, Troy (BillieJo) Gabrielson, Tim (Becca) Gabrielson, Tami Gabrielson, Duane Gabrielson; great grandchildren Grant, Chase, Elizabeth, Tess, Nora, Jude, Charlotte, Trey, Rayann, Mila, Gavin, Dwaine, cousins, nieces and nephews.
