Dearest Annie, James P. & Fivel, As I try to find the words to ease your loss and give you words of support, I keep coming back to something that was said to me at the time of my father's death. "Nothing takes away the pain of losing someone...but to feel that loss & sadness....is to have known real love". And you had that with Russ. He was a kind and gentle man. He and I shared some moments in time that I will truly cherish. You know the ones I am thinking about.... his thoughts and sense of humor over such things as "discipline & child rearing", "trips to the cabin", "new bathroom fixtures", etc. Cherish your memories.... they are yours forever!!! Grandpa, Thank you so much for always being there for us. I always enjoyed spending time with you, and hearing stories about your life and how things used to be. I remember you were always interested in whatever we had to say. I remember when you came to pre-school on grandparents day and it was so fun. Russ, I have enjoyed getting to know you over the years Andy and I have been dating! I loved our conversations about the University of Minnesota when you would reminisce about your old college. You were such a "sweet little man" as my mom would say. She loved the conversations she had with you as well! When I heard that you passed away early this morning I was sad, but thought about you up with God looking down on your family and friends and knew you were in a better place. I am so glad you are free of the pain of growing old and now feel better than you have in a long time! Say hi to my Grandma Jo for me :) and see you again someday.

Hey Grandpa- It was real hard to see you the past few months, but I have cherished every moment I have been able to spend with you. I won't forget the times you've gone to get Eric or I milk shakes when we were sick. I was more than happy to return the favor to you a few weeks back. I am glad we got to enjoy a chocolate milkshake together. We had a real nice conversation that day, and I won't forget it. As I keep growing up, I hope I turn into the nice, kind, caring person that you will always be remembered by. Enjoy your walk in heaven and spend some time with your friends and family. Grandpa, I just wanted to say that I love you very much Grandpa and I am really going to miss you. You have done so much for Andy and I over the years whether it was watching us when school got cancelled and mom had to go to work, bringing me to work before I had a car, to bringing us milkshakes when we were sick and you brought me one EVERY day when I had surgery on a lower part of my body. You were the best Grandpa in the world and money couldn't buy that, no matter how much it was. I am really going to miss talking to you about WWII, the Great Depression, when you challeged me about the States/Capitals, and talking about "ASS-High" beer. I hope you are enjoying your time in heaven with your friends and that you are looking down at your family smiling because you raised a great family. I love you Grandpa and miss you very much. Dr.Hofstad was my dentist for many years as I grew up in Cambridge. He was always so nice, despite my own reluctance to visit him regularly. I have thought of him often over the years as I moved around the world and visited many other dentists. Never did find one as caring and kind as he was. My sincere condolences to the family who, from my reoollection, was every bit as nice as he was.
