Obituary of Loyda Calander
Loyda Laverne Calander of Harris, MN passed away peacefully at Ecumen in North Branch on July 4, 2014. Loyda was born at home on September 17, 1929 in North Branch Township to Paul and Emma Keocher. She was the eleventh child of twelve children.
Loyda was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran church in Weber, MN where she remained a lifelong member. Loyda attended country school through the 8th grade. Later in life she would go on to earn her GED and was one credit short of her Associate Degree from the Cambridge Community College. She left home at fourteen to work in the cities untill she was called back home to help with the family. On October 11, 1947 she married Denford Calander together they had four children.
Loyda loved her vegetable and flower gardens, she was an avid reader and loved to talk and debate current events. She also was very artistic and was especially good at painting with water colors. She was very proud of her German heritage and loved to cook old fashioned German dishes. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much and would love to hear stories about what they are up to.
She is survived by four children; Steven (Carin) Calander of Milaca, Linda (Bernard ) Kolles of Browerville, Vivian (Kerry) Beckman of Stanchfield and Darla (Paul) Bermudez of Bethel. Brother in law Lloyd Nelson of North Branch and sisters in law Genevieve Keocher of Stacy and Ethel Calander of Columbia Heights; ten grandchildren, eighteen great- grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
she is preceded by her parents; brothers Emmanuel, Reinhardt, Alvin, Rudolph, Leonard and Theodore Keocher; sisters Lucille Nelson, Bertha Lindell, Minnie Keocher, Irene Holmes and Gloria Stamm.
