I was saddened to learn that Father Hahn has passed away. He conducted the funeral service for my baby nephew a few years ago. He did a wonderful job. He was so thoughtful, kind and compassionate to everyone. I appreciated his gentle and caring methods. He will be missed by many. My sympathies to his family.

Father Hahn was the priest at our wedding nearly 13 years ago. During one of the marriage preparation meetings, he said to us, "If you decide you do not want to get married tomorrow or next week or the day before the wedding or the minute before the ceremony, I want you to know that it is ok. It is ok if you decide you do not want to get married." And I remember being speechless after he said this for I was completely wrapped up in invitations and flowers and cake! His words were shocking, yet liberating, and brought a surreal sense of calmness and joy to our wedding. May you rest in peace, Father Hahn, and know your wisdom and kindness will not be forgotten.

My friendship with Father James Hahn goes back about 20 years to my sitting in the Allegheny court house in Pittsburgh PA judging high school mock trial championships. The case we tried dealt with the Johnstown flood of the late 1800's that killed several thousand folks.Father Hahn grew up there and shared many stories and pictures of the famous flood.
Shortly after our meeting I had a court sentencing of an individual that was very difficult and I received much criticism for not sending this gentleman ,with an IQ of 85 , to prison. As I was receiving critical letters to the editor of our local papers there was one man ,out of the entire community , who sent me a card and supported my decision and the difficulty of my job. That person was not my minister, but Father Hahn.I have never forgot that act of understanding and kindness from my friend. That was the kind of person he was.
Over the years we developed a tradition of Father Hahn delivering a bottle of Hahn wine(shirt tail relative vinyard from California) and we( I and my wife Kathy) would reciprocate by delivering, to the parsonage, a fresh baked Swedish Tea Ring for his enjoyment , which he thoroughly looked forward to .
Finally, I always enjoyed referring to him as the "Hahnorable Father Hahn" as he was appointed a special referee for administrative hearings by the city of Cambridge.
I will miss my friend greatly and thank God that he touched the lives of so many people over his ministry.
God bless his life and his memory.

Father Hahn was a member of the Isanti County Sheriff chaplain corps, I believe since it's inception back in 1995. Over the years he would stop into the Office from time to time, bringing us either a basket of fruit or our favorite box of donuts from Hermanns Bakery. Most of all he always brought good tidings with him. I found talking with him to be uplifting and I always felt good after speaking with him.
I, along with others at the Sheriff's Office will certainly miss him.
