Obituary of Alan Ubl
Alan H. Ubl, 92, of Cambridge and formerly of Minneapolis, died on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Ecumen Parmly Nursing Home in Chisago City. He was born August 10, 1922 in Hinckley, Minnesota, where he lived until high school graduation. Alan put himself through high school was the only sibling to graduate. Shortly after graduation he enlisted into the Marine Corps with minimal training in San Diego. Alan served in WWII from October 1942 to October 1945. He was sent to the South Pacific and fought on numerous Japanese islands including Okinawa. He was wounded and received a Purple Heart.
After leaving the military with an honorable discharge, Alan began driving streetcars and busses in Minneapolis before become a machinist and eventually became a foreman at EJ Longyear & Co. He met his future wife, Genevieve Wilson, and after two and a half years they married on June 5th, 1948. Together they have three children, Catherine, John, and Teresa. He retired in 1983 and he and Genevieve bought a home on Skogman Lake. They enjoyed 22 years of lake living with family, friends, and neighbors. In 2007 they sold the lake home and bought a townhome in Cambridge
Alan enjoyed many outdoor activities including gardening, hunting, fishing, and trap shooting. He also enjoyed bowling and belonged to several leagues.
He is survived by his wife Genevieve, children Catherine Briggs, John (Janet) Ubl, and Teresa (Dennis) Jenereaux, three grandchildren, Jeff (Tamara) Ubl, Chad (Valerie) Ubl, and Todd Ubl, and nine great grandchildren
