Obituary of Paul Turnquist
Paul Richard Turnquist, 77, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, June 2, 2008 at United Hospital in St. Paul.
He was born July 30, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN to Paul and Ruth (Nyberg) Turnquist. Paul grew up in Northeast Minneapolis where he attended grade school and Edison High School. In August 1950 he joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean conflict, flying in B-29 planes. He was honorably discharged on July 6, 1954 and returned home.
On September 1, 1958 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Rogge at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church in Northeast Minneapolis. They made their home in Northeast Minneapolis while Paul worked for the Soo Line Railroad. He retired after working at Soo Line for 32 years. After retiring Paul and Betty moved to Blaine for a short time before moving to Green Lake. Most recently they lived in Isanti and Cambridge.
Paul and Betty loved traveling, and especially enjoyed the two trips they made to Europe. Paul enjoyed visiting with old friends and talking about old times, deer hunting with his railroad friends, fishing, playing cards, and talking politics. He was especially proud of his Swedish heritage.
He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Ruth, and his four legged girlfriend Sara. Paul is now in heaven with his old military and working friend Buck.
Paul is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Betty" of Cambridge, son John of Minneapolis, sister Marion and husband Clyde Anderson of Red Wing, as well as other relatives and friends.
