Obituary of Edward Mickelson
Edward Mickelson, 91, of Cambridge passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at his home.
He was born June 22, 1916 in Westbrook, Minnesota to Nels and Selma (Larson) Mickelson. As a child he moved with his family to many different areas in Minnesota and later moved to Milaca, Minnesota where he met Wilma Wilkins.
Ed and Wilma were married on September 6, 1945 at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Milaca. Ed farmed as well as worked various other jobs while in Milaca. He and his brother Chester owned and operated the Milaca Sinclair Service Station. In 1952 Ed and Wilma moved their family to a farm Northwest of Cambridge which Ed and his brother Martin ran for many years. Ed farmed and worked other jobs here as well. He worked for Krueger Brothers Implement for 15 years and also worked 15 years for Johnson Plumbing. Ed retired at the age of 65. Wanting something to do, he went to work at Cambridge Health Care Center in their maintenance department, retiring at the age of 77. Ed remained busy with various projects and volunteered at Trout Lake Camp for five years.
He was a trustee at Spring Vale Baptist Church for over 30 years, and currently attended First Baptist Church of Cambridge where he was active as an usher. During World War II Ed was a member of the Home Guard. He enjoyed woodcarving, loved his gardens, being with his family, rock hunting, the high country of Colorado, watching and feeding birds. Ed loved his Lord and had a longing for the day he would be at home with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Roger Edward, brothers Christian, Martin, Clarence, Alfred, Chester and Einar, and sister Esther, as well as several nieces, nephews, and three grandchildren.
Ed is survived by his wife Wilma of Cambridge, son Bruce and wife Linda of Cambridge, daughters Judy and husband Glenn Thorson of Watertown, MN, Diane and husband Larry Lundeen of Isanti, grandchildren Scott (Cherie) Lundeen, Benjamin (Nicole) Mickelson, Kristi (Mark) Krotzer, Lori (Jeff) Kinnunen, Ryan (Courtney) Thorson, Brent Thorson, Elizabeth Mickelson and fiancé Brian Keillor, great grandchildren Noel, David, Owen, Samantha, Taylor, Autumn and soon to arrive Edward Scott, sister-in-law Norma Mickelson of Lindstrom, sister Naomi Wilkins of Milaca, brother Elhart and wife Joann Mickelson of Neillsville, WI, sister Estelle Kroonblawd of Aitkin, and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
