Colleen O. Erickson - Former DNR Forestry Office Clerk posted a condolence

As soon as Beth from the Cambridge DNR Forestry Office informed us that Bettie had passed away, some of us started sharing our memories of Bettie with each other on FaceBook, and boy did we have the memories! Of course, for those of you that knew Bettie well you won't be surprised to hear that almost all the stories that involved Bettie, also involved lots of laughter in some way! Whether it was her laugh, which was very contagious, or her sometimes "seemingly innocent" take on things...I say "seemingly innocent" because I think sometimes she understood more than she pretended to! Bettie was a lady, prim and proper, but she loved to have fun too, and when the Region 3 office clerks got together for conferences and trainings, we worked hard, had fun, and always went home still smiling...Bettie was responsible for lots of those smiles and many of the memories! Most of us worked with Bettie for many many years and she will be a legend to the Region 3 Forestry Office Managers and Assistants for quite some time! Thanks Bettie for the fun times, you will be missed!

I remember so many camping trips to the cabin at Spectacle Lake, troop meetings at Bettie's house, camping at the 'new' place near Elk River, being the singing troop wherever we went, and what beautiful handwriting Bettie had. She always wore her smile and a positive attitude. We were blessed to have her and Mrs. Ramsell who because she was a teacher I still have a hard time calling her by her first name!

Bettie was one of my favorites when I worked for the DNR, in the Cambridge Area from 1975 - 1991. I'll always remember her dedication, and being very helpful to me whenever I had administration type questions or problems. I remember her as cheerful and always interested in me and my family.

I have many special memories of Bettie, I think my favorite was of the Black Friday after Thanksgiving, 1968. Bettie, Charlene and I had such a great day shopping; we started at Kmart, still sleepy, with each a mission for specific presents for Michelle and Ryan; and we didn't stop till late afternoon. My love to all the family and especially to you Mark, you share her quiet grace. Love, Jean

Oh, the special MEMORIES I have of Bettie leading our Girl Scout troop 10 for so many years with Mrs. Ramsell! Only now after I have "grown up" and done a few volunteer leadership things, do I fully realize the sacrifice of time and energy she gave! Karen, I am so sorry for your and your family's loss! Thanks for sharing pics and special memory times on facebook, so even from Ohio I could re-connect and share! May God give you the comfort that only HE can!
