Obituary of Robert Genin

Robert (Bob) W. Genin, 80, of Bradford Township passed away on Monday, August 6, 2007 at his home. He was born July 14, 1927 in St. Paul, Minnesota to John and Rose Genin. Bob grew up on the east side of St. Paul, the second oldest of five. His father passed away when he was ten. Times were difficult and money was scarce and Bob assumed responsibilities as the patriarch of the family helping his mom raise his three sisters and a brother. It is during this time that Bob learned the strong work ethic he carried throughout his life. As a teenager he worked one summer on the railroad as fourth cook (dishwasher) traveling from St. Paul to the west coast. In 1944, at age 17 he quit school and started working for Royal Typewriter Company. Shortly there after, Bob enlisted in the Navy completing basic training at the U.S. Naval Training Center in Farragut Idaho. He served on a minesweeper, YMS 119, in the Pacific arena as a Coxswain's Mate Third Class for the duration of World War II. Following discharge from the Navy he returned to Royal Typewriter Company where he worked in various positions until his retirement in February 1987. Bob was a good-hearted, loving, honest and generous man who enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his family and friends. He could strike-up a conversation anytime with anyone, sometimes embarrassing his family but ultimately making people laugh. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and spent his time observing nature, fishing, hunting, and cutting and splitting wood. He is survived by his wife, Gail; children, Colleen (Daryl) Pearson, Lynn Gleb, Bobbi Jasper, Chris (Linda), Cindy (John) Grove, Michael (Maryjo), David (Susan); 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Marie Genin, Donna Gustason, Gene (Arlis), Irene Husnik; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, John and grandson, Michael Fagerlee.
