Obituary of Ruth Bye

Ruth Bye, 98, of Cambridge died on July 10, 2008 at Grandview Christian Home in Cambridge, MN. Ruth was born on December 6, 1909 on a farm near Leeds, ND to Ole and Mathilda (Gilbertson) Nestegard. She graduated from Oak Grove High School in Fargo. She went on to get her teaching certificate from Mayville State College. While she was teaching in a country school near Churchs Ferry, ND, she met Olav Bye. They were married in 1933 and were together nearly 60 years. They lived and farmed together in Pelican Township until retirement in 1975 when they moved into Devils Lake, ND. In 1989 Ruth and Olav moved to Riverwood in Cambridge, MN where they lived for several years. Ruth's next move was to Grandview. Ruth was a kind and generous person who always put her family's needs above her own. She was involved in many activities that revolved around church life. She had been a member of Big Coulee and Norway Lutheran Church, St. Olaf Lutheran Church and Cambridge Lutheran Church. Ruth also belonged to the Lake Region Curling Club, Rebeccas and Sons of Norway where she was member of the drill team. Ruth especially loved quilting and completed her last quilt at the age of 95. She was a talented seamstress and designed and sewed the majority of her clothes. She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, drawing and painting. She was an excellent cook and baker and was famous for her fabulous lefsa. Ruth would always have an ample supply of bread, buns, cakes and cookies in her pantry. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, one brother; her husband, Olav in 1993; and infant great grandson, Easton Bye. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Duane (Connie) of Bismarck, ND, Garry (Alexis) of Cambridge; daughter and son-in-law Anne Tuset (Harold) of Cambridge; seven grandchildren, Dan (Deb) Bye, Kelly (Terry) Rezac, Andrea (Jeff) Morrison, Chris (Chrissy) Bye, Karri (Craig) Theis, Kristi (John) Gamer, Michael Giedd; twelve great grand children with two on the way, Meagan and Taylor Bye, Tyler, Ashley and Nicholas Morrison, Thomas, Cole and Zachary Bye, Meredith, Audrey and Baby Gamer, and Baby Theis.
