Obituary of Richard Arco

Richard John Arco, 79, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the Benedictine Health Center in Minneapolis. He was born on July 2, 1929 in Minneapolis, MN to Peter and Alice (Rice) Arco. He grew up in Minneapolis and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and DeLaSalle High School. After high school he attended the Minnesota School of Business and earned a degree in accounting. He worked for DW Owning in accounting until he was drafted into the Army in 1951. He served for two years during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953. On August 14, 1953 he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Passon at Ascension Church in Minneapolis. They lived in the Minneapolis area and raised their five children. Richard worked at Cargill for 23 years and later the United States Postal Service in Minneapolis, retiring from there in 1992 after 13 years. In 1994 they moved to Pine Village in Cambridge. They also spent four years in Boulder City, Nevada before returning to Pine Village in 2001. Richard enjoyed golfing, fishing and playing cards. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church. He also volunteered at Minneapolis Children's Hospital in Minneapolis for a few years. He was preceded in death by his parent, son Rick in November 2003, brothers Joseph, Peter, and Anthony. Richard is survived by his wife Mary Ann of Cambridge, daughters Deborah and husband Rick of Edmonton, Ontario, Shari and husband Dave Daugherty of Watkins, Mary Louise Arco of Minneapolis, son Ronald and wife Lynn Arco of New Brighton, two grandchildren John and Matt Daugherty, sisters Shirley and husband Roger Lavoi of Scandia, Carol and husband Bud Howard of Sartell, and Marilyn Arco of San Francisco, and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
