Dear Marcy, I was so sorry to hear about Neil. What a terrible tragedy. It's apparent that he was very well respected in the community and also by all his students and fellow teachers. I remember him as a really neat guy with a quiet sense of humor. I'm not surprised he chose a career in teaching. It seems like yesterday when we were in 4-H and exhibiting cattle at the State Fair. Marcy, Scott, and Amanda, I was fortunate to have known and worked with Neil for so many years at St. Francis Middle School/ Junior High. We worked together on many committees and shared duties in the combined Shop/Home Ec/Art department during the last few years before I retired in 2001. My last conversation with Neil occurred at the school retirement party this past May. We talked about "the kids" and Neil's upcoming summer travel plans. He was so eager and excited about visiting Australia and New Zealand! I shared some of the highlights of my own recent travels to these two countries just last October. I'm sure he thoroughly enjoyed every day of the adventure! And Marcy , I know you will treasure those memories forever. Daryle

My sister forwarded this sad news to me yesterday. Like Steve, it's been nearly 30 years for me since taking Neil's shop class. I concur that he was one of the few teachers most everyone liked. He had a sense of humor and it was very clear he enjoyed what he was doing. Even melting the metal tri-square in the foundry pot didn't seem to phase him. I am very sorry for you loss. Even after many, many years, some teachers remain in our minds due to their ability to communicate with and care about their students. Neil was one of those. Dear Marcy and family, We are so blessed to have known Neil. He always had a genuine smile and a kind word! When BJ got a plaque for Best Actor in a Musical, Neil told me afterward that he couldn't wait for him to get it because he had known about it and was very proud of him. It must have been fun (and maybe hard) to know who was receiving a trophy or award and keep it secret until after the awards ceremony! I bet we have several "Stoeckel Trophys" around the house!! We've missed having you as neighbors these past couple years. Please accept our deepest sympathies and know that we are praying for each of you to find peace in God's love. Marci, Amanda, and Scott - My heart was broken when I heard your sad news. Neil was such a wonderful man with a true heart of gold. I am so grateful that he took the time to stop and visit with me when I was judging at the fair. In the last month, I have thought a lot about my great memories of the "4H Tour" and the time that Neil spent towing us behind your boat. That was such a special time for me. I think that all of my memories of Neil are of him grinning his giant smile. I will always Cherish his smile and will strive to have one on my face like him. Even when things weren't going quite right, he still managed to smile! I know that you all love the lord and the he is up in heaven. You all will be in my prayers.
