Obituary of Myrtle McKenney
Myrtle Elvira McKenney, 99, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2008 at the Cambridge Medical Center.
Myrtle was born in Dalbo Township, Minnesota on June 10, 1909 to Andrew and Christine (Sundberg) Lindgren.
She married Levi McKenney on October 31, 1927. They lived in Minneapolis and Spring Lake Park. During World War II Myrtle worked at the Twin Cities Ordnance Plant. Myrtle and Levi moved to a farm near Onamia and then to Roseburg, Oregon and got jobs in a Lumber Plant for two years before coming back to Minneapolis. They would then move to a farm near Bradford to be near Levi's parents. Myrtle later got a job at the hospital in Cambridge. Levi moved to the Cambridge Health Care Center and died on October 8, 1989. Myrtle moved to Cambridge a short while after Lee died and lived in Ashland Place Apartments until she could no longer care for herself due to health issues. In July 2006 she moved to the Cambridge Health Care Center. The last move was very hard for Myrtle because she was a very independent lady.
Myrtle had many interests and was knowledgeable about almost any subject. She loved to crochet doilies until arthritis took over her ability to make them any longer. Myrtle's mind stayed sharp as a tack throughout her life and her quick wit kept you on your toes when visiting with her. Myrtle will be missed bay all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Christine Lindgren, husband Levi, three brothers Arthur, Clarence and George Lindgren, two sisters Mabel Lundin and Vivian Hornquist Gourd.
Myrtle is survived by two sisters Marian Anderson of Cross Lake, MN, Lillian Leppke of Sacramento, CA, and several nieces, nephews and special friend Lisa Mueller of Isanti.
