Obituary of James Lund
James Sterling Lund, 72, of rural Harris passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at his home.
He was born March 29, 1936 in Fish Lake Township, Minnesota to R.P. Sterling and Dora (Goebel) Lund. Jim grew up in Fish Lake attending Sunday school at Fish Lake Baptist Church and the Dale School District #30 country school. He also attended North Branch High School. At the age of 17 he went to work at the Twin City Arsenal for a short time before returning home to help on the farm.
In 1958 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and did basic training in Arkansas. He was stationed in Germany where he met Gertrude Otto. Jim and Gertie were married on August 31, 1960 in Germany and lived there for a year. They returned to the U.S. and made their home at Jim's parents' and helped with the farming. He and Gertie would purchase a farm in Fish Lake Township where they lived and farmed for 23 years. Jim also worked at Aurelius Manufacturing in Braham for 15 years from which he retired in 2001. Jim and Gertie sold the farm in 1987 and bought a home in rural Harris and have lived there since then.
Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, farming and just being outdoors. He liked reading, was quite a handyman and learned many things by teaching himself. Jim was a kind and generous man who was very devoted to his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Florence Wilcox.
Jim is survived by his wife Gertie of rural Harris, brother Paul and wife Jackie Lund of North Branch, sister Lois Eaves of North Branch, special friend who was like a daughter Vikki and husband Tim Donnay of Cambridge, sister-in-law Annie Jaiser of Germany, as well as 24 nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
